Actor Jerry Adler plays the role of Herman Rabkin. He is better known as Hesh though. Hesh is Jewish and he has been around since the time of Tony Soprano’s father. Tony’s father Giocanni, better known, as Johnny Boy was once a part of the New Jersey mob organisation. He was Johnny Boy’s advisor.

Many a times, Tony has also asked him for his advice on important matters and Tony continues to do so. Hesh’s advises usually works out to Tony’s advantages. For example he advised Tony not to be a part of the deal with the Teitlemanns over a hotel that they owned. Tony listened to him and he saved himself from a whole lot of problems. However Hesh’s listening talents are not as good as his advice talents and Tony soon found that out when he was looking for someone to listen to him.

Hesh is generally an easy going fun loving kind of a guy and when it comes to the records of the Soprano’s business dealings he can supply you with information without batter too much of his eyes. Apart from the business side of the Sopranos, Hesh also knew personal things about them as well. Tony suffered from anxiety attacks and when they over take him he usually ends up fainting. What he did not know was that his father, Johnny Boy, also suffered from it. Hesh was the one who told Tony that his father also suffered from it. It was also later discovered that Tony’s son also suffered from it.

In the late 50s and 60s Hesh was involved in the recording of music business and it is there where he ultimately made his fortune. He can also be credited with having paving the way for black young musicians in the music industry. However, he had his own angle and one of them was to claim that he had also helped to write the songs of many of the songwriters. This claim allows him to collect a large portion of the royalties.

Later, the nephew of a singer that was among Hesh’s business contacted him stating that he had owned his relative a lot of money. If he did not pay up, he was going to sue him. Hesh in return threatened to sue him.

Hesh love horses and even though he himself did not ride them, he enjoy having them. Once he even sold one of his horses Pie-Oh-My, to Ralph Cifaretto.

Later on Tony discovered that his father Johnny Boy, Phil Leotardo and Hesh were all owners of a racetrack. Johnny Boy had made a promise to give Fan Felstein a share from the racetrack, and so Tony made sure that the other guys give him his share.

Jerry Adler was born on the 4th February 1929 in Brooklyn New York. In addition to acting he is also a theatre director and he has been involved in many other areas. He has also acted in Hudson Street and Mad About You
